From Eco-nomy to Eco-assumption…

2018-06-07 -

Our small Congregation, contrary to popular belief, and unlike others, is not very rich… That’s not a bad thing, but it does demand careful management of the assets we do have and solidarity among our Provinces. We need to recall that currently we have some 400 young men in formation in the Congregation and formation expenses are considerable… That is why, under the leadership of Br. Fr. Didier Remiot, our general treasurer, we spent a full morning today discussing financial matters. We’re up to speed with the stock market situation at the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018….well, almost!

After a morning lost in numbers, we returned to the animation of the Congregation in the afternoon with reports from various international commissions and secretariats. Fr. Thierry Kahongya presented us with the work-plan of the International Lay-Religious Commission that will be meeting this coming October. His roadmap is clear; it comes from the general chapter…For his part, Fr. Marcelo Marciel needs to put in place the new International Education Commission requested by the last general council. At first it will be a question of following up on the work inaugurated at the Education congress held in Worcester in July 2016, and right away to publish the acts of the congress and distribute them. This commission also received a roadmap at the last general chapter. Finally, Fr. Miguel Diaz presented us with the work of the International Secretariat of the Assumption Family, « Justice, Peace, and the Integrity of Creation », especially addressing the growth at the level of each congregation of the initiative entitled « Towards an Eco-Assumption », an initiative due in large part to the Religious of the Assumption in 2015. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with this initiative, you are invited to go to the website of this secretariat: https://www.jpic-assumpta.org/  The JPIC secretariat invites us also to become familiar with the document published in 2015 by the Religious of the Assumption: « Toward an Eco-Assumption.  Document on the Ecology », to select texts we like, and to work on them in community, between communities, with lay colleagues (various groups, parishes, etc)… There is also an interest in our being able to inform others of various initiatives we undertake via the JPIC website.

So you can see that our work is continuing even if we have been handicapped by some Internet connection issues… (that explains why this daily summary has been somewhat irregular)…
